Fedusa unions compliant with Labour Act

This post is about the unions’s competency to the Labour relations Act. According to the Act unions are required to submit audited financials, membership figures and details of office bearers.

We are very pleased that all our unions are in compliance with the Labour Relations Act,” Fedusa’s general secretary Dennis George said in a statement.

The act requires unions to submit audited financial statements, membership figures, and lists of office bearers, by March 31 each year or face deregistration.

He said registrar Johan Crouse was pleased with the unions’ progress.

“We therefore continue our proud history of compliance and administrative discipline.”

This meant that Fedusa unions would not be subject to deregistration.

George said there was a need to increase the powers of the registrar and more financial experts needed to be employed to assist with complex cases.

“We believe that the office of the registrar should be strengthened through capacity, authority and protection from political tactics.”

Last Wednesday, the Sowetan reported that most Congress of SA Trade Unions affiliates had not submitted audited financial statements and membership figures since 2009, which was in contravention of the Labour Relations Act.
